Default Newb here! huzzah! and help...

Hello all, lurked a while.. recent direct access pass (3 months) and recent aquisition of a fully faired yellow 02 curvy (2 months) so far just sunday rides and a few !COLD! commutes..

So, thought I'd say hello since this amazing little bike has me under her spell.. shes a bit tatty (dropped, plastic scuffs only..WASNT ME!), been around the block a few times and has been a touch neglected, but now shes come to a good home! cos ima loveee and cuddlee and lick herrr... .... ....*shakes out of day dream*.. ..

I've noticed a few minor issues with her that I'm hoping the wealth of knowledge here can help with, 1st of which is neutral.. doesnt seem to matter how gentle or hard I am with that lever, slipping clutch, holding different various revs I cannot for the life of me find neutral with the engine running, as soon as I turn her off.. POP its there.

Next on my agenda is cut outs, it always happens pulling away or rather attempting to. Theres no complaint from the engine as if I was giving too little revs, she just sometimes decides to cut.. tick-ZZzz..

And uhm.. well thats my main concerns for the moment, other than that shes beautiful.. not that I'd know different with my lack of knowledge.. haha..

Oh and, shes also due for a damned good polish!! which Im sure I'll not be able to resist posting the results from..

Thanks in advance!

Welcome

Your clutch is dragging, check there isn't too much freeplay in the cable and set the rocker arm up correctly - page 2:17 of this manual (http://www.sv650.org/SV_service_manu..._Maintence.pdf)

If after you set this up it is still playing up you have a warped or sticking clutch

And check your engine oil level and chain tension are correct. Both can affect gear selection. Then check that the gear lever is well lubed where it pivots on the footrest.
And welcome to the madhouse.

Yes, get someone who knows what they're doing to show you how to adjust it. Check the oil level while you're at it.

also, check you idle, if that is set too low it can cause the bike to randomly cut out.

+1, once you've got your engine properly warmed up set your idle speed. I had a few cut outs, then I've changed it to 1k5 revs.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I've got alot to play with this weekend!

dyziowg: Can I ask where you got that single seat cowl? looking to get one in the near future. Also, are you going to upload pictures with the full fairing? looks like a right tidy bike at the moment!
