Default doing a runner

all hypothetical of course

but if you were going to run what would be your tactics?

I would get down footpaths, heavy traffic, speed humps and alleyways, failing that of getting away in the first 5 mins, i would then head for a roads and try to lose them there.

In honesty i would do a runner if i got caught doing 110+ speeds, i would be raped anyway for not being restricted, haveing race exhausts, and haveing a plate the size of a matchbox.

Anyone got any tales or tactics to share?

aye- go spend some time with the families of people who've tried and failed to get away and have ended up wrapped round a lampost or embedded in a wall.

just before all the flames start, yes its dangerous and all the rest of it, and to be honest i probably wouldn't have the balls to do it.

Re-reading my post it sounds as if im trying to pick up advice, which wasn't what i meant.

In reality the chance of getting away are so slim, police have radios, more than 1 cop car, and choopers. I think its won or lost in the first 5 mins, im guessing nail it through traffic, get down some back roads, down an alley, lay low for a few hours, and depending whether they got your plate, report it stolen in a few hours, but even then if they get your plate... your screwed.

Head for traffic, not a lot is going to keep up with you if you've sufficient balls, police bikes are rather wide for use in traffic.

It takes a rather special kind of idiot to try and outrun police nowadays. It was easier years ago when they only had ground crews, but with choppers in virtually every area and the well honed coordination tactics, stingers and suchlike you don't stand much of a chance.

Back in the day it was relatively easy to outrun the police, because the traffic cars they used weren't really that fast compared to a bike - GSXR1100 vs 2.8 Granada, no contest - also the BMW boxer bikes were slow as hell and didn't handle at all. They've evened the score a bit now, a good police class 1 on a Pan will keep up with a hard ridden R1 and never look like he's trying - their cars ain't slow any more either.

I'd have considered it years ago, but I'd just stop right away now. It ain't worth risking my life to escape a traffic fine and some points.

totally agree, not worth getting into a chase its way too dangerous.

I had a very mild example but not a chase as such. We have this great twisty dual carriage way nearby and I was ragging a CBR600FS down it at warp 10, knee down on a big left hand sweeper. As I cleared the bend there was this cop car stopped at the side, both occupants stood at the back constructing the camera tripod .....sink or swim......do I haul the brakes on and skid 200meters to a stop or nail it? yeah nailed it and ran. last I heard of it. I've grown up since then though, way too risky.

these days there would be another cop car 500meters further down the road to catch me!

theoretically if i was tyring to out run the police after say a bank job. Them my vwhicle of choice would be a capable off road bike to get distance between the cars and myself, also a pre arranged meet point in deep cover i.e woods. A pack containing suff to keep out my heat signature and IR shadow down like space blankets or brand new mlitary clothing like the NBC suit which has heat shielding and IR sheilding built into the material.

Also nowadys as bad as it sounds Automatic weapons and cos of helicopters (if you were really serious about getting away after a big job) RPG's and SAM's to get rid of the helicopters. Even to the extent of going past a pre planned point where you have a SAM ambush group waiting. The police helicopters wont be fitted with anti attack warnings when they are painted by the laser, nor will they have chaffs to hide their heat signature from the misiles.

i dont actually think it will be long before serious crims use them to keep helicoters at bay. Lets face it they aint going to hang around to be picked out the sky . and if Military copters can be taken down then the basic police ones are sitting ducks.
