Default Tank Raising?

I have read this a few times and it may be a stupid question but why do people do it?

to get more air in, which may improve induction noise (i did and did not notice)

but it only cost me 65p for 2 doorstops

surely for 65p you could have gotten more of the loaf than that?

if you wana try it you can use any thing at all that is gona take it 2 the height you want it i used 2 nuts before and lifted mine about 10mm or so i didnt notice anything either.

oh and you may also need 2 change the 2 bolts that hold the front of the tank down depending on how much your wanting 2 lift it.

It's all cumulative, if you've done quite a lot more to how the engine flows then the tank-filter clearance may be a bottleneck giving pressure loss.

+ 1.

It is a great performance modification if you have serious engine tuning in your SV but it is also a benefit when used on lower states of tune like full systems, filter, cam swap etc.

Just a note, the curvy (99-02) bikes have an air intake on the top of the air box, so could possibly be restricted by the low standard tank. The 03+ bikes have a solid top to the air box and have an intake on the front, so from 03 onward I'd bet you an English pound it'll make no difference to power, but might make a better noise.

I even found it screwed a bit with the feel of my bike and the fueling. Making it worse, so unless you putting in a BMC race filter and some other stuff it seems rather pointless.
