Buy the best ones you can afford, mine are some wharfedale ones but I'd have some sennheiser ones if I could justify the cost.

I've got sennheiser c300's. About £20 on amazon.
They have 3 sizes of ear plugs and do a really good job of blocking out ambient noise. Sound quality is ok but I'm no audophile. Because they block out all other sound you don't need to crank up the volume which is nice and because of that they've never been distorted. I mainly listen to liquid d&b (fast soul music!), the basslines are good and the hi-hats crisp, so no complaints. Can't complain for the price |

I use the CX 300 ones any only on my second pair in 2 years. Good but not the best. Shure ic3 (or something similar) were excellent but i went through 3 pairs in 1 year and at over 100 quid a pop, things were just too silly. Heard the CX 500's are good so I might go for them next.
Mind you dont spend more than 20 quid if all your mp3s are ripped at a low bit rate like 128 or 192 kbps. Just not worth it. |

Earplugs would do a better job of cutting out wind noise.
If you need music to keep you entertained on a bike, you're not thrashing it hard enough.

I went with the seinheisser ones as they are the smallest - so easiest to get a lid on/off with
They DO sound good tho - but a pair of £13 "Skullcandy" ones sound as good if not better (lost my Seinheisser ones for a week or so once)

I used some of the Senn CX300 jobbies. They were genuine, there are a lot of fake ones about on fleebay. They are OK, but not brilliant, though they are small.
Better sound came from some cheap and cheerful Koss things, but they were bigger. I got them for about 8squids so nothing to lose, but they are pretty decent. "Those in the know" seem to recommend Etymotic ER6i .................
