Default Bluetooth pairing?

I've been given a bluetooth headset, but no instructions & no way of finding out how it should be done.
So I switch on the headset, search for new devices on my phone, find an unknown devices & it asks me for a password i've tried 0000, 1111, 1234 and the last 4 digits of the number on a sticker on the headset. They all fail. Any suggestions?
Thanks once again

Oh you may be able to see it, but it may not be in pairing mode.

Switch it off (usually hold a button for about 10 secs)

Switch it on and hold the button down until the light stays on, thats now in "able to be paired mode" - try 0000

At lewast thats how the half dozen units I have played with worked.

Yes exactly, I had switched it on so it was flashing every fews secs & being found as an unknown devices whereas manual said press & hold switch until the light flashed different colours, then my phone found it as iTech and 0000 worked.
So why didn't you say that in the first place

Do I need to upgrade security beyond 0000

Stu, you can now look cool walking round your local Ikea on a Sunday afternoon, pretending you are in Star Trek!

Cos it took me a few minutes to realise that every BT headset I have had worked exactly the same, and so yours might just be like the rest of them.
