Default Oil Filter wrench - Do I need one?

I'm planning on doing an oil & filter change at the weekend, do I need the Suzuki Oil Filter removal tool? or can I get it off some other way? I tried by hand, but it wont budge.. The school arm-wrestling champion seems to have lost his powers!

You don't need the wrench but it helps. Usual chain/strap type of oil filter removal tool should work, or if you are really stuck, a screwdriver through the end.

The removal tools are pretty cheap anyway. Get yourself one and have pride in using the right tool for the job.

A leather belt wrapped around will often do the trick. I've no personal experience of this but I have read the screwdriver through should be your very last option as if that doesnt work you will be left with the broken canister in you hand but the threaded end still firmly fixed to your engine.

My first change I used a filter strap- i think it was an aftermarket filter anyway- it really crunched up and was almost seized on. The OEM filter was much more robust and I used the proper filter tool- worked a treat.

As already mentioned, any of the oil filter removal tools will do although I personally use the Suzuki one which I picked up many years ago for 99p.

The best oil filter to use is the OEM Suzuki one, performance wise there is nothing in it but the way the OEM one copes with the elements (road crap included) it is far superior!

Well I went to a little bike shop down the road, and he said he could order me one, I said I was wanting to do it today and guess what? he lent me one out of his own workshop!
What a guy!
Ill be going there again!
(primarily to return his filter wrench!)

I definitely needed the Suzuki tool, it was VERY tight! another problem was: after removing the old filter, it was stuck in the tool, was a right pain to get it out! Finished up knocking it out with a socket extension. All full of nice clean oil now. Is it REALLY 4000 miles between oil changes? seems a lot? my other bikes were 1500 oil change & 3000 filter.
