Default Fax to Email

Suggestions.

We use GFI Faxmaker at work, it allows us incoming faxes to email, and to send faxes via email.

I have the need for a friend (1 licence needed) who needs this facility.

Anyone got any experiences with any online companies or softwares?

Thanks.

Not sure if it's available for individuals but we used StarFax by Star (an ISP), I can't recall the rates (and they probably wouldn't be relevant anyway given we had about 30 numbers + leased line + messagelabs with them) but I vaguely remember it being very reasonable.

Thinking about it, there's a good chance your friend's ISP offers a similar thing for residential subscribers.

I used to use Hylafax on one of my linux servers. Worked very well. for both email -> fax and fax->email

Until.

I went totally VoIP and couldn't send faxes over my VoIP lines very reliably

May I be so bold as to suggest a Cisco ATA186 and the (reassuringly expensive) time of a good, albeit out of work, Cisco consultant (aka me) to make the damn infernal beasties work?

Whilst my ATA will support T.38 fax codec. Sipgate (My provider) don't. So it is trial and error. sometimes they get through. Other times they don't.

Most of the faxes I used to send were to China. I know even with a proper phone line, reliability was a problem. At one point we ran our own dedicated Intelsat based lines. Fax was still a problem
