A question I'm intrigued by but don't want to ask my insurer in case they flag me as a 'danger' or something and put the premium up! I've looked through my policy documents and can't find a satisfactory answer.
Does anybody know if I were to snuff it or become incapacitated whilst on a trackday, whether a life insurance policy would pay out? Sorry for the grim question on a Friday afternoon, Cheers, Matt |

AFAIK most exclusions talk about racing or timed events so as long as you are not using a lap timer at the track it *should* be OK.
Although I have heard of a travel insurance policy being void for riding a motorcycle on the road as it was deemed a dangerous sport. |

Some do, some don't. If it isn't in the policy wording, then no it isn't excluded.

When I filled out the forms for my life insurance/income protection policies, there was a section about sports/dangerous activities (can't recall the exact question), so I declared that I do occasional non-competitive/timed trackdays.
IMO it's better to make sure these things are clarified in writing up front (i.e. state on a form/email the insurer to check), to avoid the risk of trouble if you do need to claim. |

When I filled in mine there was also the section 'do you do any dangerous activities' ie, hang-gliding, parachuting, ice-climbing, etc, but I decided not to put motorcycling as it is merely a mode of transport
![]() I've told the wife that if I was to come a cropper on the bike (on the road) and the insurance company were playing up then she has to tell them that I was merely using my mode of transport and they wouldn't have a problem if it was a car accident. I know trackdays are a slightly differetn matter being a closed circuit and all. I guess I'd better give them a ring and check, maybe anonymously as an 'enquiry'. Cheers, Matt |
