Default Recommend me a route

I'm taking one of the girls from work out for a pootle tonight, I work about 5mins from simister, so was thinking of going up around saddleworth.

I'm limited to about an hour or so, I'm having a look on google maps, but wondered if anyone knew of any good routes?

Heres a nice easy route I have done a few times:

Out of Oldham on Hudderfield Road (A62)
Turn left onto Rippendon Road (A672)
Straight over Rishworth Moor & under the M62 (junction 22) into Yorkshire. Dont worry, its not one way, so if you get worried about being on the wrong side of the Pennines you can always turn round
Keep going - road runs parallel to M62 past Booths Wood Reservoir (on your right), until the road filters onto the A58.
Go through Rishworth, Ripponden, Triange (its a real place name) until you get to Sowerby Bridge.
Into Sowerby Bridge, under the railway bridge & over the canal, onto Wharf Street
Turn left onto Tuel Lane (A6139) signposted for Burnley
At the next T junction (top of the hill), turn left onto Burnley Road (A646)
Through Luddenden Foot (another real place name, honest) until you come to Mytholmroyd
In Mytholmroyd, turn left onto Cragg Road (B6138 ) possibly signposted Rochdale
Up Cragg Road (big uphill) which eventually turns into Blackstone Edge Road when you go over the top of the hill
Keep going, over the moor, up to the T junction & turn right.
Pass the White House Pub on your right & drop down the hill. Just keep going & you will eventually return to civilisation (well Rochdale, but you get what I mean)

If you use Google Maps http://maps.google.co.uk/ find Hudderfield Road (A62) out of Oldham, you can follow the route very easily.
Hope to possibly see you on the route some time

Alan

I am sat here in my house in Ripponden looking out of the window. If you are out in this I hope you are a strong swimmer! P.s the burnley road bit of that route is dull as dish water.

I agree the Burnley Rd bit is not the most exciting piece of tarmac you will ever ride, but Cragg Road/Blackstone Edge Road more than makes up for it

Yeah well I got a bit of a dowsing, decided it wasn't worth it and instead got to ride through rivers than some joker has put roadsigns on, on my way home instead.

But will keep it in mind when I do get to give her a ride

Careful you almost sent him down into the doooolallly vallley, going down Burnley Road......lol. very local it is there....mind you so is Rishwarth(spelt wrong on purpose)
YC went up there yesterday with Melody to visit Im Indoors...think he took em up over the moors in Barkisland.I wasn't impressed him emptying half the water he'd collected on the way all over my floor when he got back over this way

I know its not really an option... But the cat and fiddle. Best road ive been on in a while, though watch the speed. Choppers are always on there. Not sure if its that far from you but id imagine it is

Another which is brilliant and also a long way away is the Helmsley TT, Near Thirsk North Yorkshire.

The flying police are too busy searching Macclesfield for cannabis farms at the moment than flying up the Cat N Fiddle. Seriously, they've uncovered two in the last couple of months so their using the thermal imaging stuff on the town
