I just purchased a 2000 SV650 with 5000 miles. I noticed after a ride tonight that the frame was very warm, almost as warm as the pipe after riding for 20 minutes. The temp is hot right now in Seattle (85 degrees). Is this normal for the SV650's?
Thanks in advance for your help. |

Welcome! The frame can get hot in places - I wouldn't worry about it.

It's normal. Check your oil and water levels anyway though.

Yup, normal, conforms to all the laws of energy transfer as wonderfully explained by thermodynamics.
Actualy, its great the frame gets warm, in the winter (before i had heated grips) I would stop at the traffic lights and put my hands down on the frame by the footpegs, toasty warm hands again very quickly. Just dont go putting your hands on the actual engine, or downpipe, or exhaust.. Matt |

Don't worry about it Kolby, the frame will get warm and especially around the rear cylinder area (large bit on the left of the picture below, above where the swingarm attaches). It is something everybody notices with the SV when the first get on one and have a good ride.
Welcome to the forum, and enjoy your SV. ![]() Last edited by Dangerous Dave; 01-07-08 at 09:30 AM. |

Welcome to the site Kolby. As the others have said, it's pretty normal, however I would make sure that the radiator fan does cut in when neccessary. My low mileage curvy (2001) didn't. Sender must've furred up with all the standing around not being ridden.
