Default Is this worth £2.5k, what additional costs?

Hi,

following on from my "Hi from a Newbie" thread this morning I have been offered a blue 2003 sv650 for £2.5k (doesn't have the full fairing) - not from this site by the way.

Its done 6.5k miles, looks immaculate, only non-standard items are crash bobbins, diablo tyres, and remus exhaust. Tyres are about 1/3 to 1/2 worn.

Serviced last year so due a service now, he will put a new MOT on it, and it has 10m tax.

I have a couple of questions you might be able to help with....

- Does that seem a fair price? The reason I ask is I have been offered 2006 bikes with less miles for £2.6-£2.8k, so on the face of it £2.5k seems a little on the dear side.
- Will i neede to budget for a hugger & fender extenda if using for commuting in all conditions or are these purely cosmetic
- Will it be due a big service anytime now.
- Are the diablo tyres good everyday tyres?

Any help/opinions you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Brad

If you're going to ride all year in all weathers then definate for the fenda extenda it keeps alot of cr*p off the bike as well as keeping the spray off the front plug. I noticed my bike was definately kept cleaner by having the fenda extenda on it. Huggers mainly cosmetic, but if you have a tailtidy fitted then the hugger can keep the cr*p from flying all over yours and the bikes back.

I dont think so. I think the big service is the 16K one as that involves the valve clearance check. But its wisest to double check or wait till somebody who does know comes along.

If you are refering to the Diablo Strada then yes.

A bit too dear IMO, ?2000-2200 would be fairer.

Fender extender is pretty much a must have if you'll use the bike in the wet. For the SV the official hugger is 90% aesthetics and only 10% functionality, IMO (not that there's anything wrong with that- I have one on my bike). It won't be due a big service (valve clearances) for another 10K miles.

Pretty much answered your own question right there.

£2500 i'm sure you can lower it quite a bit, tell the buyer when you view it... ooo your not to kean on the remus exhaust (knock money off), tell him "tyres will need to be re-newed soon" knock some more money off. All depends whats on the market at the time really. I got my bike blue sv650s k4 a few weeks ago for... £2200 with a restriction kit, lower engine fairings, rear hugger, double bubble screen, blue flame exhaust, with full service history, all reciepts but 20k miles on the clock and excellent condition.it was a good buy for me.

Two weeks ago I bought this 2004 registered naked for £2150, it's mint and had 2400 miles on the clock and lots of extras that I would have chosen and make it stand out from the norm. I think that around this figure is the right price for a more standard newer bike/higher mileage bike. There's lots around and with the credit crunch there seems to be some good deals to be had. End of the day if they won't negotiate on the price walk away someone else will.
