Get out there and rack up some miles. There's no substitute.

Exactly what Ogden says get out and get some decent mileage under your belt and then 6-9 months into riding get yourself on a bikesafe course

Maybe approach a riding school and see what training courses they offer, most do some form of skills courses or back to biking which go over the fundamentals.

Smile Re: Bike Skills

I did MC1 and MC3 at the i2i motorcycle academy. The courses are brilliant improved my riding skills, confidence and safety massively.

I'm also doing MC2 on the motorcross bikes on Monday and can't wait.

I approached the local IAM after I passed my test last autumn, but they wanted me to get a couple of thousand miles under my belt before training. This seemed ridiculous to me, as you most need the training when you've not got any experience.
