The government website says that I can't get tax without an MOT so can I ride to the MOT test centre legally without tax?
Also do I just need the registration to get an MOT? I haven't done it for a while. Thanks. ![]() |

As far as I know as long as you have an MOT booked you can drive/ride your vehicle to and from it's place of SORN to the MOT centre without having any road tax.

As K said- as long as its booked you can take it to and from, this DOES NOT include stopping off to BUY your roadtax on the way back!

You also need insurance to get tax, so the assumption is you are covered there to get to/from MOT station. I did this after my SV was SORn'd and needed an MOT. Was able to get tax online within two hours, system had updated with valid MOT by then.

You need an MOT certificate to become eligible to buy a road tax disc also you need valid insurance. It is true you can drive the car to and from the garage ONLY IF you have an mot test booked.
