gatso B******s!

recieved a letter in the post this morning informing me that i went through a red light last week.....

3 points and £60 fine if i admit i was in the wrong and send off within 28 days.

now i may sometimes ride hastily, but not in a 30 zone and have never knowingly jumped a red light.......although on occassion i may go through amber if im close to the lights andf its just got to amber (as a lot of people do im sure)

anywhoo.....if i write to said nazi;s am i entitled to a copy of the picture showing me going through a red light does anyone know?? (as im sure it was amber...and yes i know amber is also stop.....though not law?..correct me if im wrong...however if this was the case we would only have a green light and a red light....??)

If you ask for the photo in order to 'help identify who was driving/riding your vehicle at that particular time' then you should get the picture no problem.

it was the one on the lights and the crossroads of filton road turning left onto monks park avenue..heading down to southmead hospital....

the thing is i know its there...so even if i was in the habit of jumping lights i wouldnt do it where i knew there was a camera grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Think you're stuffed I'm afraid to say. If the light is red as you cross the white line, you get your picture taken. Even if the last light you saw was amber, if it changed to red as you crossed the line, then you're guilty - apparently.

Ok, what were the weather conditions like?

If you can come up with something involving wet roads and unsafe stopping conditions - diesel, smooth manhole covers, basically a mechanical reason why you were unable to stop, then MAYBE you could get away with it.

hi soulkiss, not sure with how the weather has been lately, will see when i get the pic and may have an option with stopping distances....

Wouldn't that just get met with "well you should ride in a manner that always allows you to preempt having to stop - for instance realise there's a TL ahead and start to slow down and be in a position to stop".

Note, just trying to offer an alternative view. Personally, I think that RL gatsos are ridiculous - if one is minded to jump a busy red then (generalising here) ins't one the sort of person that 3 points isn't going to mean much too? And they penalise those who haven't actually broken the law - such as yourself?!

I think Swindon has the right idea (Never thought I'd say that!!!) - stop using GATSOS/SPECS and use the saved money from not keeping them running to actually improve roads and the infrastructure - what a novelty.
