Unhappy Oil leak

Hi,

Just back from a 200 mile spin and have developed quite a bad oil leak
Took 0.7 of a litre to fill her up.
Can't tell where it's coming from though. There is oil smeared from the level indicator down and on the exhaust and bottom of the engine.
Anyone had a similar problem or have any ideas?
Any help greatly appreciated...

Check all bolts etc...are all tight! i had a slight oil leak found it 2 be the hose that gose from the airbox 2 the engine had a slight split in it where it gose onto the engine and plus the we clip on it wasnt very good so changed it and cut the bit of the hose that had the split and it now seems 2 be 100% touch wood.

Degrease engine, dust it with talc. Will show you where it's coming from.

engine breathers are likely culprit if you've had it in bits recently, so is clutch cover.

Whoa. Just tightening clutch cover bolts will worsen the matter. It's plastic and overtightening will warp it.

Most likely from the clutch cover, early SV's are well known for this and it is the reason why the one piece cover was introduced in 2002.

As already said, degrease the engine then take it for a short ride and you will see where the leak is coming from. A bit of silicone sealent will solve the problem.

Do i need to drain the oil before removing the cover?

It all depends on the angle of the bike when it is on the side stand, you will have to drain the oil if you have the bike upright on a paddock stand.

I take it you have identified where the leak is coming from?

Gonna take a look when i get home this evening but it does seem to be the clutch cover. I'll clean it and take it for a spin first though.
Thanks...
