Default Tell me how I ever survived without.....

....Sky +.

Absolutely the dogs nuts.

Did it myself on the cheap, second hand box from the bay, changed the lnb thingy on my dish myself and phoned up for my upgrade to plus and the whole thing came to less than £60.

Also not many people know this , but as long as you have the box on the right channel you can rewind back to the start of the program if you come in half way through. Genius.

why is it so good? Its cumbersome in operation compared to playtv (full slow motion with sound, multi speed playback, export to pc, yada yada) or the topfield (program your own features), and you have to pay to make the thing work!

An alternative to Sky+ is one of these gizzmos. Turns your hard drive/dvd/Video recorder into a PVR.

With a hard drive recorder you can view the progamme your recording using timeslip function. So makes it the equivilent of Sky+ without the subscription or upgrade cost.
Plugs into the scart socket at the back of your recorder, then progam the device to recognise the record commands. Then it's ready to go. All you have to do to record from Sky is select the program and use the autoview function and this gizzmo switches on your recorder and does everyting for you.

Sounds complicated but it isn't. Minimum technical knowledge required

No need to change the LNB on your dish either. £24 + P&P

Sky+ is really good.

Except when the recordings fail!

And when you record a live race and there is a stoppage, the recorder stopps at the end of the programme and you miss the re-start - last five laps or so! So just remember to get into the habit of setting it to record the next programme too.

Its very noisy whirring away all the friggin time.

Other then this its actually ok. But these three things do bug me.
