Default Very disappointed in report on increased organ donation

...published today. It says that presumed consent will not result in a large increase in the number of human organs available for donation. Er - why not??? They go on to say that the real problem is lack of NHS capacity. But if the number of organs available is low, the NHS isn't going to gear up resources for organs that aren't there??? We have a very low transplant rate - one of the lowest in the EU - it's scandalous.

If you're dead, you're dead - and you don't need 'em. I accept that some people will object, well if they're that concerned they can say so upfront, just like you can on the electoral register.

I'm on the register, they can take whatever they want, I would like that I can help someone else if possible.

Hence the abiliity to opt out!
I was also very much in favour of presumed consent until I read a report that Spain has a much higher level of donation after abandoning presumed consent! Not sure what the answere is as to how they get it to work?

I imagine there are many who would say no to giving on religious grounds when they have the advantage of good health, but if it came to it principles go out the window if they need a spare part. We need the presumed consent and the opt out system.

Is it right that perfectly good organs should go to waste because someone has a religious hang-up????

Maybe not, but the key word here is 'Donation'. You choose to donate. Maybe it should be a factor that if you opt out of donating, you then can't receive?

Ohh controversial statement there Lissa.

If they can find any bits I have not yet broken or damaged they are most welcome to them.

Surely those religions that do not allow the donations to be given, also prohibit reception of organs/blood due to it being 'unholy' etc.

Personally, I don't see the problem. I've carried a donor card as long as I can remember.

Technology is getting so good that in the future they will be able to culture specific organs for specific bodies and donation will become a thing of the past .
Personally they can take whatever they want , but there is the disturbing thought that there is a chance someone may need a penis transplant and later misuse it

I want a Doner Card so that when I die, someone gets my Kebab (Or maybe I get made INTO a Kebab........)

Seriously tho, when I go anyone that wants any bits can have em, as mentioned, I'm not going to use them any more.

Of course this is all pointless, as when I die, reality will cease to exsist :P
