Default Selling a car

I'm in the process of selling my car, my trusty Clio!

However, I've never made a private sale before and wished to ask the wise .org what the easiest way to receive payment. Cash is obviously best, but what other ways can a reliable payment be made? Thankfully the interest I've had so far hasn't been from Nigerians asking to pay me double through Western Union, but you can never be too careful.

I'd go in to a bank with the person. Scammers love fake bankers drafts too

Cash is the only way to go that's the only thing i will ever take, unless it's through paypal on e-bay that seems ok.
If your taking cash don't forget to check all the notes easiest way is to rub the coloured ER sign on the queens side,on a piece of white paper if the ink shows it's real.

Cash or Cheque, but you wait till the cheques cleared before you hand the car over.

But I think even then the cheques can be dodgy and still clear...

even cheques have been know to be taken back after 7 days of funds clearing

when i sell cars i always ask for cash on collection only, if they want to pay another way they can find another car.

you dont want to lose out on the cash at the same time as losing the car do you really

ive AWAYS taken cash,

however..possible option, most banks have now signed up to a shceme called fast banking (or something like that) making online payments immediate, so if u have a comp and they have internet banking you could get them to do a money transfer online, then check your account and hey presto!

just an option, but always cash really, and my brother said he felt silly counting the cash in front of the person buying his car, not sure if thats a common feeling, but i always count the cash in front of the person as soon as they pass in over, same as i would expect someone to do to me if i handed a large amount of cash over.

when i sold my last car bloke handed me what should have been £8k, turns out it was only £7820, £180 short, he was apologetic and just happened to have the £180 in his car...ALWAYS COUNT IT!
