Given my other thread, I thought I'd share the following with the .Org.
![]() We've been arguing the toss as work for ages now, because our contracts state a yearly pay review etc. We've had performance reviews, which have averaged out to roughly every 8 months. But these haven't been pay related. Some of the lads haven't had a pay review in 3 years (so forget about following inflation etc), which is why there's been arguments. Today, the postman came and dropped off a letter for me. "I am pleased to confirm that as part of the annual review process, your salary will be increased by..." ![]() The letter continues, "Furthermore, I have enclosed with this letter a cheque for your Christmas bonus, to the sum of..." ![]() Now, the bonus was expected, the value was unknown, but we knew of the bonus in advance. I'm happily surprised by the bonus I've been given, as it's more than was predicted, considerably so. I'm slightly more than shocked by the pay rise, as it's a "better than inflation" payrise, without any additional responsibility. The letter is also hand written, by one of the company CEO's, and has a rather personal element to it, sort of following from my other thread. There's the old adage about money not buying happiness, and that's very true, but it certainly helps to reduce stress a little. |

Money cannot buy happiness.
No money sure is miserable though. When my company went through hard times they scrapped annual pay reviews for 12 months, mine being 3 months overdue , so 27 months for me with no extra and as I only got a performance based bonus (No cost of living etc) they then said they have scrapped bonuses, so a year later I argued for a cost of living increase and got a miserable 2.5% to cover the 39 months with no increase. And they wondered why I was not happy. Fortunately my new boss, decided my director at the time had broke the rules in making me only eligible for bonuses when they were not paying them and then back paid the increase on my basic salary.

Quite possibly more than I had considered actually. The personal element to the letter that I touched on basically is the CEO has personally authorised "semi-indefinite" time off work with full pay, due to personal circumstances. He has obviously added that there would be a limit to this, for business reasons, but the mere offer of time off is quite touching.
Some office geek has obviously sat down & gone though the call logging system, looking at my work. The letter has an estimate as to how much money I've personally "saved" the company. That's in brackets because I see that not really as a saving, can't really explain it properly though. That sum also has another personal thank you attached, though not a monetary one. I admit though, that I did look closely at the letter to see if it's a photocopy etc, but from what I can tell, it's not. Obviously working on high profile issues in the office has got me noticed by those on high. ![]() |

I'm getting a payrise in Jan. Haven't had one in a year or three. It was pretty flippin good to what we thought it would be too, about time the stingy barstewards!
Got my first aider bonus this month, yay, boo, shame I saw less than half of it by the time the taxman robbed me. I may even get another bonus next month too, but I won't hold my breath on that one, but will be pleasantly surprised if they gave me a little rather than all. You don't miss what you didn't have as they say. Good on you Baph, I'm sure it will come in very handy ![]()
