I've just used my shiney brand new Norbar torque wrench and have overtightened the front brake caliper mounting bolts! I Don't know how this has happened as I set the torque to Haynes specifications?
![]() Does anyone know what kind of re-thread would be best bearing in mind it's the brakes? ![]() |

Either your torque wrench is not calibrated, or the haynes spec is a dry torque and you have used copperslip.
Should be fine with a helicoil, but it is a fine pitch bolt IIRC. Have you got vernier and a thread gauge? (I can measure mine if you don't)

You've actually overtightend so much you've stripped the thread?

My haynes
Front brake caliper mounting bolt = 39Nm. Hardly a thread stripping torque Helicoil should be fine

Have you set it with lbf-ft instead?

Thanks everyone. I did use copperslip & thread lock. The wrench is twist n go nos. 1-9 (20nm-100nm). I just assumed the thread is b******d as I left it cold n wet with the hump. I will attempt to lever the bolt out tomorrow and check thread for certain.

What you use both for? One or the other.

Use threadlock on both, or copperslip and lockwire
