Digital Camera - SV650.org

I really to get around replacing my digital camera that was stolen, this was err more than 2 years ago now! It got nicked on a bus in mexico....

I got a full insurance payout, so I have up to £250 to spend which should include all bits to go with it.

I had sony camera before which was okay. I would like something with more optical zoom and more manuel functions as I like to use cameras on manuel auto does suck. Oh a built in battery is a must its pain to travel with loads of spare batteries ect.

So any ideas of something that would suit the above?

Upgrade the lens to get more optical zoom, have a look on ebay... if you want to do it on the cheap.

Seconded - got one for chrimbo, great bit of kit. The only problem with it is you cannot stick it in your pocket

But if you want something smaller have a look at the canon Sx110 or the Panasonic Tz5 or higher.
Like the guys above said though the d40 is cracking little SLR if you can find one now jessops had quite a few left in the warehouse but we had to order in to the store to get them

i got a nice wee camera for xmas. samsung p1200 (12 mega pixels, zoom 6.0-18.2mm) it was half price at £80. really pleased with it but maybe more basic than you are looking for.

Have a look here http://www.dpreview.com and ken rockwell.com Ive just got D60 but if you look at ken rockwell, site he,s reckons the D40 is still a superior camera, check out amazon or ebuyer some good deals on there.

Edit; the Ken Rockwell link isnt working for some reason just google it, he,s pretty good.

I always make my decisions for compact cameras easier by ignoring everything that isn't a Canon. Small minded but it seems to work

Cor that's a good price, I would like a DSLR, although my Finepix 5600 is pefectkly good for most stuff.

Before I got into digital, I always had SLR's
