Default N96 on Vodafone

Does anyone else have an N96 and think its really slow and finds their battery life rubbish? Or do I need to throw mine out the window and get an upgraded model of it.....had since october when it came out.

yup thats why im not getting one, its got the same battery as the N95 which is silly considering its got a larger screen

I would get the N85 as its got OLED screen all the same stuff as N96 except DVB (as we dont have it in the UK it does not matter), its got a larger battery than the N96.

Throw it out the window and get a completely different phone lol,.
My brother had one and he sent it back twice because it would constantly mess up - eventually he managed to get a different mobile.
Same happened with my mum...There pants in my opinion

If you've had the phone more than 14 days, they won't give you a new phone at all. There used to be a rumour going around that once a customer had 3 repairs or exchanges done on a phone, they could get a new one, but it's not true.

The N96 on Voda is a bit of a shambles, and it's all down to the way their software works on the phone. Every phone that Voda sends out has carefully designed software so they can fully brand the phone, and every change to the stock software has to be debated with and approved by the manufacturer, which means that when Nokia releases new software versions, Voda typically takes about 2-4 months to put out the same software on their branded handsets, with their modified feature-sets. The N96 is a particularly bad example of this, because they've screwed the software up massively.

On a side-note, the phone's not that fast when in peak condition, either, and the battery will never last more than about 36-48 hours if you're using any of the phone features at all. If you don't use MMS/the internet/video calls, you could always turn off 3G on the phone - might get a few more hours out of it that way.

This thread's reminded me of every reason I quit Voda customer services

Sometimes people come up with ways of debranding handsets, but I've not checked for the N96. Hit google with "debranding N96" and see what comes up

Indeed it has a larger battery, but the N85 was renowned burning up its battery when the user tried to do anything with it. Maybe they were just driving their CPU too hard and thought they had a fix for the N96. The screen technology won't matter much if your phone stays in your pocket the whole time, however if you are a heavy user just stay away from smart phones. They go through the battery in no time. (I shan't go into details)

Calm down. A couple of technology hick up does not call for a turn into luddism and going back to the dark ages. As the hitchhiker's guide says "Don't panic"

I believe the N96 has already been debranded, but I can't remember where I saw the firmware.
