Just been given a set which were used for 40 laps on a track day on a wet track and I have never seen a set of tyres "Blued up" so much.Has anybody used tyres in this condition and does the blueing wear off with use? The tread itself is almost untouched in the centre and about 10% off
on the shoulders. |

When a tyre has been through an extreme heat cycle the edges can turn a blue/black colour. Its usually present with a lot of rubber scrubbing too.
Good deal there Dicky! |

Due to the heat exerted on the rubber with hard cornering it tends to bobble-up and gains a blueish tinge,a bit like petrol on a wet surface.

I thought the blueing meant that the tyres have overheated and the oil in them has come out of solution leaving the blue sheen, and that this meant grip is reduced as the tyres make up has changed?

DT, I had Corsa IIIs on when I decked it at Rockingham. I'd been psuhing them hard and they were also turning blue. They may be more prone than others but they are perfectly OK still for the road. Neve had a problem with wet grip although long time since I've ridden on a 'touring' tyre
