Short back ground:
Passed CBT: 24th Feb Passed Full Test: 11th March (0 minors - just cos i need to tell you all that again!) First Bike: SV650s First Ride: Tuesday 17th West Calder to Briech to West Calder (about 10-15 miles) (fairly nervous, first time on bike, rush hour traffic!) First Proper ride out: Saturday 21st Livingston to Abington back to West Calder via the A702 and various back roads (about 90 miles) Comments from OH: I'm effectively "not safe" as I'm "too slow on corners" I'm also "not dominating the road" I'm "not quick enough at over taking" and he's now thinking that my SV is "too powerful" and "too difficult for me to handle" (because at the point of around 50 miles into the ride he made a very sudden right turn in to a junction that I wasn't expecting and when I turned I snatched my front brake and dropped the bike on it's side.) The rest of the ride was without incident, and I managed good straight line speed, handled the bike well in windy conditions and although I was slow on corners I think thats only natural for first time on bike. So the upshot of all this is he essentially feels I'm not safe on the roads and that if I dont improve a LOT in the next couple of weeks then he wants to sell my SV and get me a CBF600... *cries* Someone please tell me that I'm right and that I amn't a rubbish rider after all. EDIT To Add: I haven't been allowed on my bike since this, alone or in company and it has been locked in a container, the key to which only my OH has. Oh for the record OH had his license since July 08 and has been riding motocross bikes for about 5 years. (I have had a lot of feed back on another site I use I dare say some of you will have seen this - maybe?! All comments are welcome. ![]() |

bin the other half and steal the keys while your at it. Who the feck does he think he is!
If I lived within a mile of him I'd come and allow the wrath of Dizzy be bestowed upon him! My other half taught me to ride. He thinks I'm too slow, he thinks my lines are poo, i'm not quick enough at overtaking etc etc. We've ridden across the length and bredth of the UK together, some 2000 miles across France......we're like George and Mildred of the biking world.. BUT HE'D NEVER EVER EVEN ATTEMPT TO LOCK A BIKE AWAY FROM ME.......he knows I'd kill him with the nearest blunt object. BTW what room does he have to talk as he's only been legal for less than a year himself. My other half had been riding some six years ish when I first got my bike, I've been riding five myself now and he still complains...lol

what a complete knob...
that OH sounds like ![]() you've not got a lot of experience so your riding leaves a little to be desired. That's nothing new! you just need some more experience, and it would help of you had someone to give you some confidence not make you feel worse ![]() Sorry to hear you dropped your bike but it sounds like your OH wasn't going easy on you making a sudden sharp turn (although your better observation skills & keeping a safe distance behind will help once you learn them ![]() ![]() And anyway what difference is a CBF600 going to be? the power output is not going to be much different, just the delivery of it. You might as well have what you want. |

hhhhhmmm a cbf600 ermmm i would say fu(k off.. keep the sv its easier to ride coz if you get in a mess on a corner its got the grunt to get you out of it...
as for not dominating the road and all that other stuff, this you will learn in time... i have ridden bikes for years and i have dropped my sv 2wice since getting it... mind you i have had a break of 20 years .. rofl |
