Travelling on the A47 Friday, got stuck for miles behind a caravan doing between 35 & 45 MPH. Got to a long clear stretch of road into 3rd and foot down to overtake, doing about 75 when I pulled back in and saw a Norfolk road safety camera van in the distance, braked and back down below 60! Does anybody know how far they can pick you up?

Around 1KM I think, or 3280 feet, thats the max distance a reading can be made from.
*I Think*. |

Look at it like this.
The vans are there to reduce the risk on the roads and not to make money, so we are led to believe. You were going to overtake at speed but saw the van so pulled back in and kept to the speed limit. Now, if you do get a ticket you could always reply saying that you do not think a fine is justifyable as the van did it's job by slowing you down so why are they trying to get money out of you if making money is not the vans purpose. I doubt it would work but I would love to see the reaction/justification of the police. |

im sure there has to be a sign before they can take a reading so if you slowed down before that your ok.
they are already proven to no be 100% fool proof because a car was recorded doing 300 or something miles and hour when in fact it was a jet flying above. If there is a group of cars they cant accuratly pick out 1 car who was speeding. You should be ok my dad braked about 200m before a mobile camera after he didnt see a sign on the verge he was doing 80 and slowed to about 65 and hasnt recieved anything from that. your be fine ![]() |

There doesn't have to be any sign that the camera van is operating (as from 2007 I think it was), they can take a reading at up to 999m with a laser speed gun which usually means they can get your speed before you even see them. You just have to play the waiting game now, if you're the registered keeper of the bike and not changed address for a while then they have to get the NIP to you in 14 days.
