Default Should I or shouldnt I - R6 purchase?

ok folks i took a walk down to earnshaws on friday and spotted this very nice looking 1999 r6 in there for 2400. Now ive never been a fan of sports bikes, nor have i riden one but i havnt stopped thinking about it since. So heres the thing. should i swap the sv for it? or not? it would cost be about 1600 quid which i would have to get a loan for. however i still havnt completed my first year of biking yet so is it too much too soon? an i better off learning more on the sv? (or putting a gsxr front end on it for instance?)

all opinions greatly apreciated.

How are you geting on with your SV ?

I did two years on my SV before I got my GSXR, having the SV taught me loads about riding and I wouldnt enjoy my GSXR as much as I do if i hadnt had my SV first.

Its up to you, if you feel ready then go for it, you'll definately appreciate the better brakes and suspension on the R6.

Why's it going to cost you £1600 they haven't only offered you £800 for yours have they?

It's up to you, it's a fair bit more power just gotta decide whether you're ready for it I suppose. Ask for a test ride?

Definitely get a test ride if possible. The R6 will be a much more sporty riding position than your naked SV. Also the engine more revvy.

I've had my SV for over 5 years now. The suspension could be better, but I've never really needed more power. (wanted, yes, but needed? no)

Anyway thats me. If you think its time to upgrade, go for it

Oh and if you wanna take my SV for a spin just to see how you get on with the more tipped forward position, just ask.

errrmmm, You've not been riding too long Andy, how much mileage have you got under your belt?
To follow Ophic, a few better upgrades could be what you need. Suzy is the dogs b0lox since she got new suspension, transformed her completely. I don't usually offer test rides on her though, your not restricted so I can't see it a problem to let you, as your round the corner

Personally I'd get the summer over with, and get some good rides in, then decide if you still want to....but obviously I'm not you, so your call!

Mt mate has a 2001/2002 R6, and each time we go for a ride he is always in agony on the way home. His wrists ache like mad because he is lower and more forward, if that makes sense.Looks a lovely bike tho, just not too good for him on a 150 mile plus run.
But,goes like stink....

I'd leave it personally. Finish your 2 years on the SV and then jump to a bigger/faster bike. Better for you and your wallet.

Andy's not restricted IIRC, so he doesn't have the 2 years sentence like us But atleast will have had a flavour of power.
