Default Fuelling problem?

Hello! I know I don't post very often but I'm quite bad with forums. I was instructed by a member on here to ask if anyone knows what my fault could be.

The bike keeps cutting out. It also doesn't hold the revs when the throttle is held steady. Anyone have any ideas?? It's an '05 SV650S.

Thank you

Tori

Ok, I'm no mechanic, but I probably wouldn't start off trying any of ^^ that!

Start with the basics. If it runs in some shape or form then you are definitely getting fuel and spark. Stumbling at constant throttle/stalling at tickover could point to either too much or too little fuel or air.

So if it was me, I'd start of checking the airbox/air filter for blockages, then the throttle bodies for balance.

Has it been a developing problem or did just happen one day ot of the blue?

Oh yeh check spark plugs. If they're all sooty it's running rich so check fuel air mix..as luke says.

but yeh super unleaded works a treat normally

1) Has it been stood unused for a while?
2) Whats it ticking over at?

First thoughts for me would be that the Petrol has gone off due to standing and that this is blocking the fuel system somewhere. Very common problem with bikes after storage and it sounds very like the problem your having... though it is less common with injectors.

My K5 was doing that recently, tried various things but turned out to be a duff TPS. Fitted a new one, job done. Not that expensive either.

There are about 10 different things you can check for free, before digging into your pocket to buy replacement parts to further diagnose the problem.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. It's my race bike so I always use super unleaded. The bike was sat for a while with a small amount of fuel in it which may have gone off and sooted the plugs. The wiring loom had somehow got knotted and sections of it were pulled tight which may have contributed somewhat. Changed the plugs and sorted out the wiring loom. It seems to work again.... for now!

Thanks again for your great advise!
