In alpha motorcycles. They've had my CV for like a year and a half and now have a vacancy they want me to fill.
I've only just started doing insurance claims for the RBS group which is very interesting... I really don't know what to do. |

If you do leave ask for a x month contract, state you'll happily leave your current job to fill the position at Alpha but you'd be less than a happy bunny if you found out after 2 months you would be getting made redundant. Ask for a 6 month contract unless your behaviour or otherwise deems it necessary. Besides working for banks (even if it's not directly as a banker) is always going to get you stick.... |

TBH, it depends on what you want to achieve really? Are you looking at a long-term prospect or just gaining some experience? If I was your age, I would go with the bike shop but thats coz I would look at it as a fun experience. Whether there are any long-term prospects in it I don't know. You also need to consider what training prospects are available with each as training can become very expensive.
The next question is where you want to be in the next year, 5yrs, and then even 10 yrs. The advantage you have is your age. Whatever choice you make, is yours to make. |

Currently, I'm training to be an accountant (with the association of accoutns technicians ) Which is an evening course 2 days a week.
2 years left to go on that. The rbs insurance job is unrelated to accounts. I have a few tests coming up, and hopefully an interview at the insolvency service the end of june, but they are not looking to hire until september/october this year. The bike shop - yes would probably be the most fun I could have out of any of the jobs at the minute. Experiance? I would love to work for an accounting firm getting real hands on experiance with the trade, however, that said, the next best thing is office based experiance and that is what RBS are offering, compared to a bike shop. Also, when I go for any other jobs and they ask who my previous employer was, and I say, RBS they know it is a large, respectable company. If I say some bike some in leigh on sea, they will think, ok so we don't know who they are etc. Thanks for replies, I think I will have to see what they say on saturday regarding pay/benefits, etc. |

Work to Live, NEVER Live to Work. Rule 2. The future NEVER works out as you thought it might, so dont make plans based on what may be. So, taking those into consideration, what do you want to do? If you want to spanner bikes, then do that. Would it be a better 2 years of your life to spanner bikes than to work in an office? In that 2 years you will learn skills that you can have for the rest of your life, and if you want make some money with. As for interviews, well yes, RBS is probably better on your CV than Random Bike Shop, but the simple justification is that you felt that while you were studying Accountancy, you also wanted to get some solid technical skills under your belt as a fallback, which shows a certain amount of good thinking. End of the day your choice and good luck however you choose.
