Default What's the best way to get back to bare metal? (For restoration)

I've been thinking about my Lambretta, all cold and lonely in the garage. I bought it years ago and am now thinking it about restoring it. It's a '68 Li 125 Special.

One of the major stages will be getting a heck of a lot of the metal parts including the frame and panels back to bare metal. What will be the best way for me to do this or would it be better (cheaper) to send them all off when it's stripped to be sandblasted or acid dipped, if indeed that's possible.

Also any good sources of info for such a project would be gratefully received.

I know a good company that does powder coating. They vapour blast everything before they coat it.
I'd ask round a few such places and see if you find anyone that could do that for you. It will save a hell of a lot back ache.

Depends what the metal is. Call me.

I won't even mention what happens when you mention the word billet.

Thanks fella's. I'll pick Uncle Sid's brain the next time I see him.

I did find a great process for classic cars where the whole chassis gets put through several different dips on a conveyor belt type affair and ends up free of paint and rust (and any other crud you could mention) and even gets primed in one!

Grit blast - it gives a nice surface for the new paint to key into
