Recently acquired a cheap Renntec rack for the Sprint. Having been out for a couple of hours since fitting, I noticed that the rack (as half expected) gets rather warm with heat from the underseat exhaust. Would an average tail pack be able to take such heat? The rack itself was fairly warm to touch, but nowhere near so warm that I couldn't hold it.

Surely its no different to bikes which have a side hung exhaust and then side panniers on so you'd hope so. But I have neither so can only speculate

Panniers tend to have heat protection built in, whereas tailpacks don't. Having said that, the distance from a pannier to the exhaust would generally be smaller than on the Sprint, and also there is bodywork between the two.
