Smile Sonisphere 09

Went to Sonisphere, ( Knebworth ) over the weekend and had a brilliant time there. So I decided to do a photomontage of my weekend. Be warned it does last for 8 mins, however there is music to go with it, so it shouldn't be that boring lol.

I was there.

Metallica showed everyone else how it's done ... again.

Was also impressed by:
Avenged Sevenfold
Machine Head
Alice in Chains

I was in attendance as well with the Badgeress , I also bumped into Northwind as well . Awesome weekend , Limp Bizkit sucked , and rightly so , NIN were boring but highlights for me were seeing Machine Head actually there after pulling out , Metallica actually doing a non cliche set for a change and kicking a$$ , Alice in Chains sounding like their old selves , Avenged Sevenfold were tip top and getting to meet Phil Demell , Scott Ian , Matt Tucknott and some hairy dude from Mastodon on the Jackson Stage where some kids won a guitar setup for shredding on stage for a minute . Was a great day for me , shame I missed Saturday but couldn`t attend it due to other arrangements .

It was ace... Just went for the sunday though. Took about 2 hours in the queue for the buses on sunday morning so I missed Paradise Lost though I did get there just in time to run into Badger. Machine Head were bloody amazing, best I've ever seen them I think, kicking off with Imperium and then getting better, my word... And the end of Halo, stunning stuff. Heavy as **** but kind of beautiful too. And Struck a Nerve...

I love Limp Bizkit. There, I've said it. I thought they were good on the day, not great but solid, funnilly enough we got free tickets to see them at the Forum for the warmup show the night before and they were pretty ace there. They seemed to get some grudging respect... How can anyone not like a metal George Michael cover?

(actually, I thought Robb Flynn made a c*** of himself over this whole thing, pulling a hissy fit and pulling out, then doing a total reversal and playing anyway, and saying "it's all about the fans". If he'd thought for 1 second what the fans want, he'd never have pulled the drama queen stunt in the first place- I know MH fans who sold their tickets on when they pulled out, and they're gutted now. He was acting like a hero on the day but I thought he owed everyone an apology tbh, he crapped on the fans and then asked us to wipe his a***)

Nine Inch Nails... Meh. OK, very nice but it was a bloody metal show, why play all the quiet stuff? I just don't get it. Bowing out with a whimper not a bang... Bit gutted actually. Though I was lucky enough to see them at T in the Park, where weirdly in front of a pop audience they dropped a really heavy set and destroyed the place, one of the best live gigs I've ever seen. Odd.

I saw a few others that left no mark, Mastodon, Lamb of God and a bit of Avenged Sevenfold... Alice In Chains were just plain dull. Feeder were OK, they rose to the challenge I thought "We thought that since this is a big day of metal, we'd do some ballads"

Metallica were on top form, great set they chose. Dyer's Eve! Woooargh. But then, halfway through Seek and Destroy I had to do a runner to go and see Hundred Reasons in the little tent. They were headlining the whole festival, you know- last on, that's headlining, right? And they were deadly, just non stop great songs. I literally sprinted in right at the first note of the first song, ran down the front and got jumping, and stopped about 50 minutes later when they finished. Best end to a festival ever...

Great day... Nice festival all round actually, it had a great vibe, reminded me of Reading 10 years ago or an early t in the park. And totally about the music too, which I like. Hope it comes back next year.
