Default Help me identify a part

Hi. I went to see a SV650 today that I would like to buy and it all looked really good to me. However there a couple of things I would just like to check with you people (more in the know!).

Firstly on the front suspention at the point where the male part enters into the female part there are plastic "hooks" which I presume protect the suspention from getting too much dirt in maybe?
Anyway, one is broken. My questions are what would it cost to fix, am I right in what it does and has anyone seen this happen before. I cant for the life of me work out how it was snapped off???
The only other scratch on the bike is on the same side of the suspention at the bottom there is some abration on the front side. Doesnt look serious. Am I being too picky or do you think its crashed into something and had the plastics replace. I must stress the scratch at the bottom isnt bad and the suspention is firm, steering perfect and there isnt a scratch on the rest of the bike.

My second question is, is it right for a high pitched sound to come out when the ignition is turned on. It lasts for about 2 seconds.

Thank you for your help.
Adam

Depends what year the bike is, if it is a 2003 year or newer, i.e when they changed the shape and went to Fuel Injection then yes the noise you can hear is quite normal, its the fuel injection system priming.

As for the suspension stuff, theres no such thing as being to picking, If your not sure about the bike then walk away, theres plenty of bikes out there at the mo, its a buyers market keep looking if you arent 100% happy.

hope that helps, welcome to the forum.

Is the bike from dealer or a private sale?

If a dealer point these things out and ask for them to be fixed prior to sale.

If a private sale point these things out and ask for them to be fixed prior to sale.

As Fizz has said if in doubt walk away.

Meant to protect the fork leg from scratches and stone chips.

Could have been transported somewhere and broken while strapped down, could have been caught on something (a cable maybe wheeling the bike out of the garage), all sorts of reasons.
