Hi all ,
ive only had 2 bikes in the fist 1 and a half years of biking. my 125 and recently my gorgeous K6 pointy. when i had my 125 i rode in literally everything, sun, sleet, snow, rain etc. now i have 3 and a half grands worth of bike between my legs instead of a £500 Chinese fighter. and i dont feel like giving it a slide across the road this winter ![]() so i would like to get maybe a supermoto type thingy for the winter as ive heard theyre awesome for staying up in the snow and **** weather during winter? but funds arent exactly high as im paying monthly for the bike and its insurance, along with board and an additional addiction to bike gear and parts itll have to be cheap. both to buy and to insure TPF&T wondered what you guys thought? |

Id just buy a cheap hack for the winter,500quid maximum. That way, when it does get dropped ,it really doesnt matter.Ive just got a crappy old Honda Dylan scooter with knobbly'ish tyres on it that gets kept at the back of the garage for using a few days of the year, costs me absolute bugger all in insurance and 15quid a year for tax.
A supermoto copes with poor road conditions pretty good, but by no means are they a guarantee that you're gonna stay shiny side up on a wintry road. If i just had to have one tho,id probably go for a CCM or an old Husky, pick up one of those cheap enough |

What do you want to use it for. If it's a regular commute I'd avoid any Supermoto that's remotely competition based (like the Husky) as they are high maintenance and not strong on security. As has been said anything cheap and cheerful is a good move, you'll save what you spend in it just in retaining the value of your SV.

Hi,
thanks for your replies. whats a ccm ? ive only ever ridden sports, naked sports bikes and have never gathered knowledge about trial type bikes, it would be to get to work mostly, and then to my girlfriends house. what a bout 3 wheelers? does my licence allow me to drive/ride 3 wheelers? |

What roads? Motorways?
If max speed requirement is 50mph-ish then I'd duggest something like a DR200 - they'll go faster but it is not much fun. Cheap & cheerful plus tolerates being dropped. The riding position of such bikes is also more condusive to control when it is slippery. Cheers |

why dont you get an old DT125... I had a little hyosung 125 supermoto for a couple of years and believe me that thing was dreadful in the bad weather. imo.

Have you got a car license ? If so £500 car... IMHO a far superior winter hack than a bike would be.

No car licence unfortunately and too late in the year to learn and take test before the bad weather kicks in , morris minors can be driven on a bike licence, but as an 18yr old male... you get my drift.
are quads able to be ridden on a bike licence? ive never found the answer to that one ? itll be mainly bypasses and such. so ill be needing something with a top speed of 50 - 60 |
