Default Written off SV

Hello. Has been a while since I've posted here - had a slow speed spill a few weeks ago when someone pulled straight out of a junction and into the back of my bike. Have been on a courtesy bandit ever since (which I'm really warming to!).

Anyway, her insurers have now apparently written off the bike!! Which came as a bit of a shock as the only damage i could spot was a scratched up fairing, broken gear leaver + indicator, a hole in the tail fairing and a bent subframe... I was able to ride the thing home!

Am yet to get a run-down of the damage but I was wondering in your experience how these things tend to go? - Do you think it will be worth buying it back and fixing it, or breaking it? or just take the money and find a new bike?

It's my first accident ever so its all new to me...

cheers

Yup will do. its a royal pain in the ass sorting it all out with insurers though, theres been about 3 different engineers involved! She's disputing liability now somehow so have to wait for my insurers to assess also...

It is / was a 2007 K6 with ~7000 miles on the clock. FSH etc.

You need to find out what value they have put on your bike. Then cost up what the parts would be. Then decide if you really want to keep the bike.

I guess you're not fully comp, so the third party's insurance aren't going to hurry along the payout unless you bother them every couple of days.

If you're TPO or TPFT then I think typically they'll offer you the value of the bike minus the scrap value and it's up to you to scrap it.

Of course when they're adding up the damage for scrapage they count every scratch as 'replace that' whereas the bike quite often only needs a few bits to be ridable.

For example my SV was written off, valued at 3k and scrap at 300 so I got 2700 and to keep the bike, would have needed a new hanger, gear lever, left mirror, headlight, indicators and M/C host/elbow to have been ridable on the road again but with scuffed panels, I used it as a track bike instead and all it needed was rearsets and the M/C hose/elbow.

the cost of new parts from suzuki and a dealers hourly rate is what wrote your bike off, claim the bike back and repair it yourself with parts from ebay

Fella, are you riding a courtesy bike or a hire bike?

If you are on a hire bike they should pull there finger out as someone will have to pay the charges on it! (poss - upto £70pd!)

Its a very rare thing to repair a SV nowadays, forks are made of toffee, exhausts are always damaged etc etc etc

My K8 was written off as there was over £2.5k worth of parts + labour.

Payout £3,800 (or similar)

Buy back just over £1k

Back on road cost around £3-400
