Default oil sump washer

Changed oil @ filter today replaced sump plug washer , was not sure if it mattered what way up you fitted the washer ? washer has got a flat side and a angled side which is soft and crushes , is they a right way or does it not matter ?

Cheers Steveg

If it don't leak don't bother. I usually out the flattest side up against the engine. They cost like 20p so not an expense to replace or you can probably anneal(spelling?) them if it ain't sealing right.

If by "angled side" you mean a chamfer on the hole through the sealing washer, it is to clear the neck of the plug, and should be placed on the plug side.

If that is not what you are referring to - pass, no idea!!

Nothing wrong with re-using, given the washer isnt too warped.

I like to wrap some PTFE tape around the head of the sump bolt and over the washer to make an extra sealed seal
