Default Tom Tom Rider

Hi folks.

Accidently put 12v into the 5v socket on the bottom. Smelt burning, now does not power up.

Anyone know if there is an internal fuse in this thing?

Unhappy Re: Tom Tom Rider

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I highly doubt it. I reckon you've fried one of the chips (mmm, chips)

Take a look at http://www.fixya.com/support/t974149..._will_not_turn I know this is the Go and not the Rider, but if they're in any way similar, it looks like your best bet is to sell it for parts on eBay n buy a new one!

Sorry. Fubar'd. Throw it in the bin and get another - or something else. Apparently they can be fixed, but by Tomtom, but it costs more than a new unit and its not guaranteed to be successful. HTH

Thanks for the information.

Also, even just to open the unit up, there is a non-standard allen screw used, which is like a normal allen screw but has a raised bit in the middle of it so you must have to have an allen key with a hole in the centre to undo it. Anyone know what it is and where to get?

There are 4 anti-tamper allen screws and 2 very small torx screws needed to get into a tomtom rider. I bought a set of anti tamper bits off ebay for about a fiver. I dont however have a torx bit small enough so I will be getting one a set soon.

The torx are hidden behind 2 little covers towards the bottom

see HERE
