I have a friend who has a SV650s 2002 with a slight problem.
The bike starts up fine and has no isslues other that every so often maybe once per hour the clocks just die. The rev counter drops to zero for 2 seconds and all the warning/fuel/temp lights alll light up. This then resolves its self after just a few seconds and the revs shoot back up to a normal level and all the warning lights go out. When this happens the headlights and all the other electrics are not affected. This problem occurs randomly and not very often( probably 9 or 10 times in 6 months) What could this be? Good morning.
It sounds like an earthing issue to me. Clean the plugs from the instrument panel to the main wiring loom carefully. A dodgy contact in there would give you the symptoms you describe. Alternatively, it could be a break in loom, which is a little more tricky to find. Cheers. |

The curveys had a couple of well known wiring chafing points, I'd suggest check these before doing anything else if only to rule them out.
Remove the black triangle side-panels below the seat and then check behind the two bolts which hold the rider's seat on. The bolts are slightly too long and hit the wiring harnesses which are strategically routed immediately behind them. Bolts can be either shortened slightly, washers added, or the harnesses moved and/or protected. Remove the pillion seat and look towards the rear on the left side and the wiring harness bends round the edge of a frame bracket, and it can chafe through. Also check generally around the headstock where the various bits of wiring move when the steering is turned.

It sounds more like it might be the loom chaffing either the inside of the fairings or the back of the headlamp. |
