Default Digital Rendering Anybody?

Does anybody on here use or do this as a hobby? I would like to have a go and need to start somewhere, so where should I start and what do I need. I hope there is a free trial that can produce good results before I have to purchase expensive software, I may not like what I produce... that would just be a waste of money.

I have used this http://www.blender.org/ to render an intro to one of my Youtube videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-PVSghfSxA

I do it for a living!

My advice would be to download (legitimately ) the learning of editions of some of the proper packages like maya or XSI rather than bothering with the free apps. I think you can download tutorials to get you started as well.

Also have a look on www.highend3d.com. Lot of help/inspiration/code their for a beginner

Have fun with it!
