Default "Small" drainage pipes causing corrosion on fairing

Right,
Title of thread may be obscure, but when I removed the lower (aftermarket) fairing from my SV650S I noticed that there was corrosion (melting even) of the right hand fairing on its bottom edge.

Pipes shown:

Probably being stupid here, but what are these for?

Help

As far as I'm aware they're just breather pipes. Didn't think they got that hot. Is it definitely melting?

Breather, but isn't one also the fuel cap drain?

Edit, it is a long time since I had the bits off, so don't quote me

Well there is only damage on that side, I personally thought nothing hot came out of those either!
It may have been some nasty chemical spill I picked up on a road, but nowhere else is affected.
The damaged plastic has become a gel like consistancy around the affected area.

I'vegot the same thing.

If it is a fuel breather it may be that the fumes are melting/stripping the paint/plastic.

Mine is no where near as bad as that though.

I was thinking of replacing the pipes with slightly longer ones so that they are away from the fairing.

Sounds like a good solution, just point them somewhere more sensible where they won't get blocked.

Aye may consider doing the same, or at least extending the current ones.
Cheers guys.

If you spill anything under the cap it pours down that tube.

I doubt there would be any significant fumes.

Hi SB,
I think Suzuki knew about this, as there is a way to solve this problem, which comes with the Lower Fairings Fitting Kit. It's simply a little square bit of plastic with double-sided tape on it which attaches to the frame (near the brake pedal). The square plastic has a little hook on it to attach a cable tie that holds both those overflow pipes - this re-directs the pipes away from the Lowers.

My camera is broken so can't post up a picture, but in the FAQs section of the following site in 'Suzuki Lower Fairing Install Instructions': http://www.suzukisv1000.com/ Page 2 - Section 3 describes what I'm talking about.
I love that site (a little less than the Org, mind you!)
HTH all the same
Chin
