The back end doesn't care what you've got on the front. Mix and match at will if you know what you're doing.

and ride magazine readers recommend avon storms when they had 13 readers test them?

Well yes but riding on the road in this weather you'll want some knobblies, riding on the road 90% of the time you'll want avon storms, that other perfect 10% you'll want some slicks!

So what's the balance of use? If you just commute then get something rock hard that will last ages. If you just rag the buggerance out of it on sunny days then get some race takeoffs.

Lots of different ways to ride on road...
