I have been struggling to start the GSXR since before Christmas.
Had the battery on charge for a while and had 3 lights of 4 on the optimiser. Tried to start but the fuel pump struggles and and then the bike will just not start (turns over a bit then stops) after that it comes up with FI warning . I thought the battery dead was beyond repair and put a new one in today but exactly the same thing happened. Any ideas on what could be up with it Also how long do you have to wait before a new battery is up to speed with charge? I need to get this sorted as it needs an MOT and i want to get back out as the weather was better this weekend Cheers Jerry |

A new battery usually comes with enough charge to start a bike. bought mine, filled it with acid, put in bike and away I went. An overnight charge should be more than enough.
Does it turn over well, or does the starter sound a bit sick? I don't do FI bikes, but if it is turning over OK, the next thing to check would be spark, and fuel pressure. |

It was starting with a good charge over the cold snap we had in January
Now it tries to turn over but sounds like it is lacking power. I twisted the throttle yesterday while trying to start it and it did start to improve but then just died The time resets to 1.00 I think i could get it going if i coudl bump start it but that means taking it on the road and at the minute my road is an ice rink again. I also need to get it started to get it to the MOT station I will try again tonight |

So when you put in a new battery did you clamp the contacts up nice and tight?

Nice and tight indeed but not too tight
The headlight works and all the dials so it does have power going to it |

I've had similar with a cage, and it was all about earthing. Check the -ve terminal from the battery to the frame or wherever it goes.

Thing is it has been starting over the last couple of months (not going anywhere though due to potholes and snow)
I will have a look at the earthing wire tonight though |

The cage had a poor connection where the earth connected to the bulkhead. Everything looked good, lights, radio whatever, until you tried to pull a lot of current to start it, then it kinda went 'tick', and everything stopped working.

I would specifically look and clean the connections on the starter, they may have corrosion and are integral to the main wiring circuit on the bike.
Also if your FI light is on then there may be a fault on the engine management system, so its possible to read the fault code on the dash by using a jumper wire in the ECU connector. The Haynes manual should tell you how and also tells you what each code means. For example 'C00' means 'no fault'. This is how the SV one works so I'd imagine the GSXR system is similar. |

All sorted now.
Got home and it just started up without me doing anything. Guess the battery just needed time to get up to power. No warnings on the display either bonus! Now to get it MOT'd |
