DOH!!!!!!!
With the bike currently off the road (garage tomorrow - watch that space) and the mothers day ride out a week on Sunday, I thought I better have a back up plan incase something happens to the bike again. So I phone up my car insurance company this morning because I have breakdown cover with it and politely ask if I can upgrade the breakdown cover to include the bike. No problem, the lady says although it will only be Rescue to bring you home again. That's fine I say how much will it be ....... £15.30 ![]() How cheap is that!!! BUGGER, why didn't I think of that before. I could have been covered when the bike broke down a couple of weeks ago and wouldn't have had such a scary ride home that day. So Advice of the day - if you have breakdown on your car, check to see if you can cover your bike!!!!! |

Other way round for me
![]() I did have cover on my bikes with my insurance, which had just run out and before getting a comprehensive policy for all vehicles my car broke & I had to join the RAC for £115 for their basic cover ![]() |

I have Green Flag for the car with additional personal cover. I asked if this covered bikes too and was told yes...I don't believe them but have kept the email for the day the inevitable happens and they tell me I'm not covered for bikes.

Amanda, you could have got a more comprehensive cover for not much more. I get roadside assistance etc for something like £23.

![]() However did you pay extra for the breakdown when you took out the policy? I did as it was on 'special offer' however I went to nci the following year and got the same level of cover, including the bike from the offset for the same price of just the car with the other provider.

Too be honest I only just thought about covering the bike because it went wrong the other week. Bought the bike in October, took the car insurance out in November!!! Should have done it at the same time shouldn't I. DOH!
Never mind - ultimately was still only £15 so tis OK. |

Something like RAC personal cover will cover you (the person) whatever vehicle you are in, driver or passenger. I'm sure the others have similar policies, read the small print. I use one policy for my use of 2 cars, but in theory it also covers the bikes.
The only issue is that it doesn't cover me while abroad, so when I tour on the Continent I need a separate bike policy (Aviva Bike Gold comes reasonably cheap with the insurance), which of course also covers the UK. That can cause potential issues when you have insurance cover under two policies, but I haven't used it yet so will cross that bridge when I come to it.
