Default Rear Caliper servicing tips (K2)

Finally fixed my dragging rear brake on the K2 model with the under slung caliper ( whose idea was that !) and its working like a charm. The bike is now easy to manually reverse when parking up.

I'd serviced the caliper 4 months previous but had used normal grease for the shells which was a stupid idea. Bought a tube of the correct grease from the local suzuki dealers, £12 a small tube. Its green and goes on the side of the shells like cold treacle.

Just thought i'd post a pic of how to push-out the shells using air pressure from a bicycle pump. You can physically drive the #1 front shell out through the bleed screw hole. Take care not to damage the screw thread.

The #2 shell isn't so easy and needs to be driven out using air pressure. NB: I've half bolted the caliper back together in the pic to block fluid share hole. Once its all apart, scrap all the oxidised alluminium from around the rubbers. Apply the treacle grease to the shells and pop them back in and bolt the caliper back together.

All that leaves is the brake bleeding which is a bit of a faff as you have to keep re-filling the small reserve for every 2-3 pumps of the foot brake lever.
