If the government were to introduce regular re-testing to keep your driving licence (car/bike etc) would you support it?
As far as I'm aware the aviation world has regular re-tests for both commercial and armed forces pilots. HGV categories have alsort of hoops to jump through to keep within the law... ...so if it meant the roads would far, far safer, and re-testing fee's were heavily discounted over first time test fee's - would you go for it? For the sake of argument, say every 3-5 years with a grace period to carry on driving if you fail, but you must pass within a set time limit...

Yes, as long as it wasn't an excuse to gouge money or reduce motorists. I answered yes, on the basis of supporting the idea of drivers having to keep up-to-date on skills, laws etc. Practically it might be misused, unfortunately.

I don't know about every 5 years, perhaps every decade since passing but once you hit 65 every 5 years. I've seen too many grannys peering over the steering wheel that just about miss me, something needs to be done to get them off the road if they can't drive.

I can see the benefit... But it's not something I could possibly support.

Well it'd keep the plumbers busy
![]() More unlicensed, uninsured drivers on the road and less money in my pocket would be my guess at the result...

Yes.
Not only will it be safer for the individual taking the test, pass or fail, it would would mean that all road users would be of a guaranteed standard throughout their riding/driving life. We've all met father flat hat, or granny with her knitting hanging from an indicator stalk. Retests would go some way to solving that too. I'd go for a scaled retake period, e.g. 10 yrs at 25 but down to 5 years by 70.
