Chain Jumping after adjustment

Hi guys,

Back - with more problems (oh when will they end) on a SV650s K2.

So it was pointed out to me that my chain had way too much slack on it while riding. So I thought I would get the spanners and allen key out, and adjust it. I done exactly as follows in the Haynes manual, loosened the axle bolt, adjusted each side ensuring the marks were equal each side. Then readjusted it.

So I took it out this evening and there was a horrible tapping and scraping sounds which I would hear was the chain. So home I go to try to unearth the problem. I took the majority of covers off to try to get best access to the chain as I could. But I could not find the issue! The chain has the correct tension since I measured it etc.

I took a video of the chain to try to better your understanding (and to make the issue clear) - see link below. I tried reslacken the chain to what it previously was but there was no luck there! I didn't know how to unslacken it since the bolt seemed to be loose, and was sticking out the back of the swing arm (instead of where you adjust it, it feels like you are tightening the

ok first thing is your chain still good? did you check it in several places around it's length or just the one? does it have tight spots in it ?

the swingarm marks are approximate a best so check alignment (do a search it's been covered), if the axle is loose and the adjusters are also loose, just kick the tyre forwards to slacken the chain off.

Not sure what the sound youre hearing is. Check sprockets for wear and chain for tight spots. A big tight spot running over old sprockets can make rattling sounds. If you have a hugger fitted, check its not gravel stuck in the tread of the tyres scraping on it.

On chain adjustment, you should slacken the brake torque arm nut before adjusting the chain, and to get the wheel to move forward when loosening chain, just give it a shove.

Can't see the video for some reason, but either the chain still has too much slack or the wheel alignment is way out. Check the Suzuki user manual that comes with the bike for details of adjusting the chain. You need to be sure that you moved both adjuster screws by the same amount, and don't put too much trust in the markings on the swingarm.

Thats better. Looks to me like your chain is shagged. Check the tension at several points along the chain and look for tight spots. Check the links roatate relative to each other. How many miles on the chain, and how often do you clean and lubricate it?

What the milage of the chain/ bike?

Thanks all. Well I'm not sure on the age of the chain, the bike is pretty old and has near 50,000 miles on it. It is regularly oiled, and has done near 2,000 miles since the last oil.

Other than that, I'm not sure

Erh, hang on a sec, are you saying that you last lubricated your chain 2000 miles ago ?
