After running a set of pilot power 2ct's, I decided to fit a set of power pures today to see what they are like.
I loved the grip and feed back the pilot powers gave in both dry and wet conditions and they gave me over 5000 miles of smiles ![]() Although I ran the rear tyre to the edge, when the centre had worn to nearly nothing, I still had plenty of tread left on the sides. The pures have a larger soft section on the shoulders, which will give more grip at less of a lean angle, and a solid centre which should give a few more miles of wear. Taking these into consideration, the power pure's should retain there profile better, for longer, for the my style of riding. Photo's have been added for profile reference and I have measured the tread depth at different points to monitor wear. I will try to keep this post updated on wear for the life of the tyres. Bike Miles - 21191 Tyre miles - 0 Front tread depth center - 4.00mm Front tread depth edge - 3.00mm Front tread depth mid - 3.70mm Rear tread depth center - 5.30mm Rear tread depth edge - 3.50mm Rear tread depth mid - 4.50mm ---------- Bike Miles - 21248 Tyre miles - 57 Tread depth as above Not a lot to say really as they are only just scrubbed in. Dry roads: Braking is alot better, really firm lever pressure and the tyre just bites into the tarmac. Acceleration is good aswell, no spin at all, (note to self, must keep that front wheel down) Cornering is as good, if not better than the power 2ct's, Feels really planted and holds a good line. I don't know about warm up yet, because I took it easy and built up the lean angle, although they get hotter to the touch than the old 2ct's. Wet roads: Not tried them in the wet yet. ---------- Bike Miles - 22428 Tyre miles - 1237 (about 400 on motorway) Front tread depth center - 3.40mm Front tread depth edge - 3.00mm Front tread depth mid - 3.60mm Rear tread depth center - 4.30mm Rear tread depth edge - 3.50mm Rear tread depth mid - 4.40mm Estimated rear tyre life - 5319 miles Dry roads: Warm up is very quick and they do hold a lot of heat. The dry grip is fantastic. They feel really planted into the tarmac and the bike feels very stable whilst leant over. Braking as I lean into the corner does not seem to bother them and the rear, really bites under a fist full coming out ![]() At first they felt a little like they were moving around, but when pushed, really grippy. I think the movement was because of the lighter construction and thinner carcase. You can depress the tyre easier with your finger, when the tyre is fully inflated, than the pp2's. I presume this gives a larger contact area. I have been running at 36 front and 42 rear and think I will keep them at this. These will not last long on motorways. I did about 400 miles of motorways on the GM3 weekend , and as you can see from the tread depth, it took it's toll in the center. Wet roads: I have done a few miles of wet roads on the way back down from GM3, on the A85 / A86. The feel was good, lots of grip. I didn't really notice any difference from the dry grip, although I was not pushing the tyres. These were wet roads, but it was not raining hard. ---------- 08/06/2011 Bike Miles - 24955 Tyre miles - 3764 Front tread depth center - 2.30mm Front tread depth edge - 2.80mm Front tread depth mid - 2.50mm Rear tread depth center - 1.70mm Rear tread depth edge - 3.00mm Rear tread depth mid - 3.00mm Estimated rear tyre life - 4495 miles (to 1mm off tread all across the tyre) Which equates to approx 1000 miles/mm Dry roads: Loads of grip. I got used to the feel of the tyre quite quickly and don't really give my tyres much thought these days, they do what I ask of them without any worring moments. The front grips well, even when ham fisted braking mid bend. The back let go in a big way once when they were too cold, with a fist full at full lean over painted lines. I thought the bike had gone down but it stood itself up nice and smoothly without any sudden high side invoking grip. The tyre is starting to go off a bit now. I do a lot of short commutes over roads that I know well, so the tyre does get quite hot and cool down in a fairly short space of time, at least twice a day through the week and I think the heat cycles have taken its toll, not alot, but I do notice it takes a little bit more time to warm the tyres up. The profile of the tyres has remained quite consistant, the rear has a small flat spot there now, but nothing that I can feel when turning in. I am going to replace these with another set of the same before the GM. Wet roads: Not a lot more to add really, Grip fine, stop fine, accelerate fine. I have great confidence in these tyres, so they don't worry me in the wet at all. Not much different from the Pilot Power 2ct's. Approximately the same tyre life. Maybe a bit more grip. They retained there profile better (due to the tread design I think). Worth the extra money over the PP2ct's??? Well I'm having another set ![]() Last edited by DavieSV; 08-06-11 at 10:07 AM. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Are the Pures not meant to be more track focused than the Power 2CT.

With the larger softer section on the edges, that can only be a good thing for me, I never wear the sides down, so more grip & more wear is good for me, but time will tell. |

I loved the pilot power 2ct's I had and was just going to replace them with the same.
When I took the rear off, because I had worn the middle down more than the edges, the tyre was a lot more fexible in the center, than towards the edges. This must alter the profile at different speeds and when cornering. This made the desicion for me to try the pures. Time will tell if they hold there profile better, but in the few miles I have done they are very similar, if not a touch better, than the old 2ct's. Saying that, it's been 10 months since I put the power 2ct's on, so just the fact that they are new tyres makes you say "these are much better" hence the log to see how they perform across their life span. |

I have got Pilot Pures on my bike now also, I came back from Scotland yesterday in what only be described as rain and winds of epic proportions. I ended up hitting a small lake in the road after and blind dip, managed to slow the bike down to around 30mph before making contact with water. Despite the side-winds the tyres maintained grip and did not aquaplane in the slightest. I ended up completely soaked. From my experience so far these tyres are excellent in the wet and feel superb in the dry.
