Slightly different problem than just choosing standard luggage...
I'm looking at using my Nokia 5800 as my gps device, and have looked into a solar charger (well aware we live in the uk, etc.). So am looking for 1) Weather proof map bag and seperate gps holder. Or 2) Combined unit/bag big enough for solar panel and phone, and easily viewed whilst riding... Solar panel is: [Mods, please delete if required] http://www.powerbee.co.uk/Solar-Phon...-Pro/p-84-356/ Any ideas |

My advice would be to wire it into the bikes charging system instead.

Cheers Owenski! I'll keep you posted on it if it goes further!
YC; I have considered this, but the solar charger is great when camping, etc... And would allow me to swap it ver to another bike easy peasy. However, do you know how much it'd cost and how difficult it'd be to set your way up? |

I'd take a bet that it's considerably cheaper than a solar panel and new luggage.
Probably a fiver for a car charger, and another fiver for a fuse and a bit of wire.

yeah i bought a 12v socket for the bike off ebay for like £6 with a fuse, mounted it under the back seat and just used a car charger with 2 USB ports on it, one went to the sat nav and the other to charge my iphone when needed, for a tour to catalunya

I'm aware its not a difficult job, just want to be on the safe side. Also, how do you make sure its all gonna be waterproof? |

very simple, the socket is literally just a 12v socket you would find in a car....but with a postitive and a negative lead coming from it, which you then connect to the battery.
Under the rear seat should be resonably waterproof anyway, but i had the cables coming from the charger under the seat into my tank bag for the phone and the sat nav was mounted on the tank so i just tracked the wire round the bottom of the tank to it. |
