Disaster of a day

Today was meant to be my first day at uni on the B.Sc applied computing course but what a disaster!!! I got 12 miles down the road on the way there this morning in pretty appalling weather. Overtaking a milk tanker and halfway past he decided he was going to overtake the tractor in front. Not so much as a glance in the mirror and no indication, he just pulled out and stuffed me into the verge (fortunately very wide at that point and wet so it was soft). The bike went down and I came off and slid along the grass at about 30mph. Got a willing witness to the incident but no reg number for the lorry which just cleared off with out stopping.Spent the day on the phone to a myriad of insurance type people, the police and then in the garage trying to straighten the bike out for another attempt tomorrow. Spoke with the head of my course and he was ok about it all, said to just come in tomorrow.

Pretty upset about it all really, been looking forward to this day for months.......

I bet the tanker is on a regular run, so chances are you might see it again, but difficult to prove it was a particular driver

Ouch, any chance you for the name of the dairy? They should know where their trucks were and when.

Don't worry though. Not much happens in the first week of uni. Inductions, and tours etc. but nothing you can't pick up as you go along.

you need to chase up the milk collectors in the area-each collection is lodged and the farm details and time collected is noted on the tankers computer system, will be pretty easy to id driver once you find out which company- collection times are normally the same each day.

The chap in the Jeep directly behind me who stopped to help and offered to give a witness statement said he was pretty sure it was a First Milk tanker, which means it's out of Wrexham Maelor depot. They should have driver log and if I'm lucky, a tracker fitted. I shall be doing the exact same route tomorrow morning at around the same time so I shall be looking out for it again!

Gutted for you buddy. It will be worth working as hard as you can to trace the truck and driver though. With a willing witness they should be had for leaving the scene, and maybe driving without due care(?)

Erm ..... I'm 56 and happily married with 8 year old twin daughters. Think I'll leave that particular hormone fest to those better placed to indulge in it.

I shall certainly be chasing this milk tanker business though. I was lucky insofar as I had a soft landing and relatively minor damage to the bike. The next person who occupies the space the idiot driving the lorry wants to be in may not be so fortunate.

Uni was a while ago for me but it was great fun.
As for the driver, and any other that doesn't check before moving (bloody taxi drivers included), he should have the book thrown at him
