Default music and influence.

do you think that the kind of music you listen to has influenced your personality?

Cause and effect - did the music influence your personality or did you choose to listen to this music because of your personality?

A good question, which I will try to answer with out sounding like a loon!

I started listening to music quite young, my first memory is really enjoying watching Pink Floyd on Top of the Pops. My Dad really encouraged me with music and got me started on Thin Lizzie, Fleetwood Mac and Iron Maiden.

The Iron Maiden energised me and I really got into the whole NWBHM scene, but was always looking for heavier and harder stuff.

As I got into the music, I started to embrace the scene as a whole, changing my clothes to fit in with my Gothier music taste. The music I listened to pointed me to a sub culture that I felt accepted in. I think that the musical subculture is a draw for people, as we take on the uniform of what ever subculture we fit into, we adapt ourselves somewhat to fit in to a greater deal.

For this reason, I have tattoos, piercings and band shirts, despite being nearly forty!

First saw Judas Priest in 1977 at Lancaster Uni - WOW!

Definitely has energy, and won't lull you to sleep.

The next gig at the uni was Rory Gallagher.

Similar to Jayne, I got in to goth/metal in my teens, then when I went to college and we had the choice of what to wear etc then my clothes and appearance changed.

My personality however has never changed and I dont think music generally changes your personality, but I think certain sorts of music attract certain sorts of people.

Most people I know who are into the same music as me seem to share the same values and outlook on life though - I dont know if this is just the sort of people that music attracts. Generally an accepting bunch who are pretty hard to offend, very easy going and friendly.

Its difficult to explain what I mean, but I think I know what the orginal question was kind of aimed at - kids imitating RnB people - again I think this is the music attracting a certain sort of person rather than the music changing the fans.

Yeah definitely. A lot of my music makes me happy, in a thoughtful thankful-to-be-fortunate way
