Well I was shopping for Mand's Birthday .. yes late I know.
and there were barriers and police everywhere- checking the bins and up trees with sniffer dogs. it transpired that the staffordshire regiment- (now the anglicans or summat) were home from afghanistan and were doing a march .. people with flags kids on dads shoulders and when they arrived just constant clapping. point is.. I dont agree with the war or our guys n gals being there but that is another argument.. however.. seeing them .. brought a lump to my throat , made me proud and I clapped as hard as anyone.. and reminded me that the little lad I was with a big stick for a gun and crab apples as grenades grew up in to a bloke who could no way do what they do .. so respect to them and bless all you orgers who have family members in the forces in a conflict zone .. especially approaching Christmas. |

I know a couple of people that serve in the forces, and I know some of them have a real laugh and love it when they are away. But a lot of them also leave their kids at home for 6 months at a time, while having to get up every day and patrol streets where a lot of people want to kill them. Its takes some balls (although some of them just lack brains).
You have to give them some respect for doing the job, as it's a fairly insane one, they may not agree with what they are doing, to some of them it is just a job.

It's all part of that 'back to normal life breaking in routine'... like how they also spend time doing drills during their stop over in Cyprus on the was home from afghanistan, all so they don't come home and go nuts when someone knocks into them in Sainsburys lol!

our march home was disrupted by protesters which put a bit of a downer on it, but tbh it is a weird feeling seeing loads of people youve never met clapping at the side of the road, and obviously every bar on the way seems like a worthy pit stop

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119873/ It's about the Brit troops in Bosnia, and how the things they saw left then psychologically scarred. Anyone seen it? I reckon it's brilliant. Last edited by thulfi; 09-11-10 at 04:57 PM. |

We had soldiers march through Shrewsbury too.
Can't put how I felt into words - the best I can do is honour, respect, pride. |
